Cookie & Storage Policy
Last updated: 29 September 2026
We keep browser storage to a minimum. NotTheRealAPI uses essential cookies for sign-in and account security, plus local storage to remember your theme preference. We do not use analytics or advertising cookies, session replay, heatmaps or behavioural marketing tracking.
What we store
| Type | What it does | Essential? |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in and session cookies | Keep you signed in securely. | Yes |
| Sign-in security cookies | Protect sign-in, including third-party sign-in flows. | Yes |
| Theme preference | Remembers whether you prefer light or dark mode. | No, functional only |
Third-party pages
If you choose to sign in with GitHub, Google or Microsoft, that service may use cookies on its own website. Stripe may use cookies or other browser storage on its hosted payment pages. Those cookies are controlled by the relevant provider.
Your choices
You can clear or block cookies and local storage in your browser. Blocking sign-in cookies may prevent account features from working. Clearing the theme preference returns the site to your device’s colour setting until you choose a theme again.
